PROGRAM

• Band/Choir Track - This is the larger program of the Signature Music Camp. Campers participate in daily band and choir rehearsals. Other offerings include show choir, jazz ensembles, improvisation, sight-singing, master classes and music theory.

• Vocal/Piano Track – This track is a great way for vocalists to build repertoire and develop piano skills. Campers participate in sight-singing, concert choir, show choir, piano and voice classes. Master class repertoire includes music theater, classical and jazz.

Additional Program Components

• MASTER CLASSES – Classes are conducted daily with same or similar instruments including flute, saxophone, trumpet, percussion, voice, etc. Students work on basics of tone production, technique, breath support, articulation, and ensemble performance. All campers in the vocal program also take group piano class. [REQUIRED]

• Sight-Singing – Classes teach the solfeggio method (Do-Re-Mi). Unison, and two-part exercises develop intonation and independent reading skills. Camper and parent feedback indicates sight-singing is an invaluable camp offering. [REQUIRED]

• Jazz Ensembles – Two ensembles provide opportunities for varied abilities. Each is a 15-20 piece group with trumpets, trombones, saxophones, piano, bass and drums performing jazz styles from the swing era to bop. [OPTIONAL]

• Concert Band – The band performs selections that represent the best of traditional and contemporary band literature. Students learn norms for section leadership and develop listening skills that enhance musicianship. [REQUIRED]

• Show Choir – Show Choir includes singing and dancing in exciting and dramatic productions including Broadway, jazz, and pop tunes. Show choir provides on-stage fun and learning to take back to school in the fall. Mixed show choir includes boys and girls singing in four-part harmony. Girls’ show choir sings in two and three parts. [OPTIONAL]

• Concert Choir – The entire camp participates in the mixed (SATB) choir. Audiences enjoy the varied repertoire of folk, gospel, Broadway and jazz arrangements. Many campers return home and join a school chorus after the Camp choir experience. [REQUIRED]

• Improvisation – A daily class for students who wish to develop confidence and skills in improvisational jazz. The classes introduce campers to blues and basic chord progressions employed in popular music and jazz standards. [OPTIONAL]

The teen program includes a workshop on college planning and leveraging music to aid in college admissions and/or scholarships.

• Diversity – The Signature Scholarship program and the camp reputation attract students from diverse backgrounds. Campers represent many states and a mix of urban, rural, and suburban communities.

• Program Balance – From 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., campers take part in ensembles and classes. The campers experience creative educational and recreational activities planned by the camp staff and counselors-in-training. In the late afternoon, from 3-5 p.m., campers can swim, play frisbee or other pick-up games, or just hang out on the lawn. Evenings events include skit night, staff and camper recitals, scavenger hunts, and carnival night.
